This could've been something. Something that mattered, something that people wanted to watch. A spot in the playoffs could've been on the line for the Jets if they didn't absolutely tank.
Instead, as we look at Dolphins vs. Jets odds, it only matters for one side.
It does matter for Miami, however, as the Dolphins can clinch a playoff berth with a win and a New England loss. That does seem likely given that the Bills can clinch home-field advantage with a win.
Two teams that have been irrelevant for years. Is Mike McDaniel the real deal? This season started like a rocket ship for both teams, but it's been an absolute disaster since the beginning of the second half of the season. Is Robert Saleh the guy? Is McDaniel confident in his quarterback?
Miami can clinch a playoff berth. Saleh can try to get his guys fired up for a meaningless win. Maybe the Jets will get a Joe Flacco resurgence. Perhaps there's a spoiler alert on the horizon. Let's see.

The first time these teams met we actually had a better quarterback matchup, with the dynamic Teddy Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson duo against the wildly underachieving Zach Wilson.
This time, we're treated to Flacco and Thompson. The Jets have more missing pieces on the offensive line, so they're really throwing Flacco out there to take some heat. The good news is the Dolphins have a porous defense, so perhaps the old man will be fine.
Bet New York vs. Miami at FanDuel
Let's talk strengths and weaknesses. I like to talk about the best unit on the field, and with Tua Tagovailoa, that would be the Dolphins offense, but in this game, it is the Jets defense.
New York's defense is effectively at full strength and put Thompson in a pretzel last time they played.
The Jets offense, on the other hand, has been at the bottom of the league for the past eight weeks. Several offensive linemen are missing, which jeopardizes any potential output from this squad.
That said, I like to buy low on output when everyone expects the worse. I don't think Flacco is going to be the guy, but I think New York can dial up some plays and take advantage of a weak defense. The problem will be limiting those high-powered corners, but the Jets also have two of the best cornerbacks in the league.
So, this game has a 3.5-point spread with two awful quarterbacks at the helm. Who prevails?
Betting Picks
With Flacco and Thompson, both of whom have incredibly limited data this season, I make the Dolphins a 2.5-point favorite.
Again, the best unit on the field in this game is the Jets defense. Given everything we've heard in the media this week, I expect an inspired performance from New York. Playing spoiler is a great feeling, and the draft implications are minimal, so there's no motivation concern at this point.
Let's take the Jets with the points here.
Pick: Jets +3.5 |
