It's been a season full of backup quarterbacks being thrust into key roles, and the Seahawks needed Drew Lock to play like a starter in a must-win game for their postseason hopes. The Seahawks had an estimated 32% chance to make the NFL playoffs based on Action Network's projections and were 5.5-point underdogs at home against the Eagles Monday.
While the Eagles led 17-10 entering the fourth, they left the door open and the Seahawks burst through at the end. Lock capped off a 10-play, 92-yard drive with a go-ahead touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba with 28 seconds remaining.
Jalen Hurts threw an interception as he tried to author a last-minute drive of his own, handing the Seahawks the upset win. It was particularly rough for Eagles bettors who bet the birds to cover the spread as road favorites. According to Action Network's public betting data, 80% of the money bet on the spread landed on the Eagles as road favorites. That was the second-highest money percentage of any game this week behind the Bears against the Browns.
It's also the seventh consecutive Monday Night Football game in which the underdog came out on top.
Entering tonight's game, the Seahawks started a backup QB just four times over the past 10 seasons. They were 1-3 SU in those games, but 4-0 ATS. Lock for his career was 8-14 straight up and 13-9 against the spread, including 5-5 SU and 7-3 ATS in home games. He had never won a game at night (0-2 SU), but was 2-0 ATS in that spot.
The Seahawks still have a hill to climb to make the postseason after Monday night's win. They enter Week 16 tied with the Vikings, Rams and Saints and trail the first two teams in the standings for one of the final wild card spots.
