Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered an injury in the fourth quarter of Monday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Lawrence had to be carried off the field after what appeared to be an ankle injury on a third down play in a tied game with the teams knotted at 24 points apiece.
Backup QB C.J. Beathard replaced Lawrence under center but could not get the win as the Jaguars fell to the Bengals in overtime, 34-31.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported after the game that the initial diagnosis is an ankle sprain and that Lawrence will have an MRI on Tuesday.
Lawrence's ailment is the latest in a recent spate of injuries to signal callers across the NFL this season. New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions and suffered his second concussion of the season. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is expected to "miss a couple weeks" with an ankle injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Pickett suffered the injury during the first quarter of a loss to the ArizonaCardinals.
If Lawrence were to miss any significant time, it would be crucial to the Jaguars, who are in the thick of the NFL Playoff chase. They entered the week tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the second-best record in the AFC, -8000 odds to make the playoffs and +490 odds to have the best record in the conference, based on odds from FanDuel.
