The Ottawa Senators were able to put an end to their seven-game losing streak on Saturday when they beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-1. Now that they are back in the win column, they are now trying to put together a run of consecutive victories.

The New York Islanders have been a very fun team to watch this season and they have played an incredible stretch of hockey as of late, winning eight of their past 10 games. They won all three of the meetings between these two teams last year and have won nine out of the past 10.

The Islanders are hoping to continue their dominance over the Senators.

New York Islanders

It is very clear this Islanders team has put the disappointment of last season behind it. This group has been absolutely outstanding thus far and they've shown a ton of resilience, battling back in many games where they found themselves down.

The backbone of the Islanders is without a doubt their star goaltender, Ilya Sorokin. This man came into the season with a chip on his shoulder and is earning the respect of everyone around the league. Sorokin enters this contest with a record of 7-4-0, boasting a .932 SV% and a 2.17 GAA to go with his +10.1 GSAx, which is third-best in the league.

Even though Sorokin has been stellar, a ton of credit goes to the guys in front of him. The Islanders have been so strong in front of their goalies, not only at even strength, but also on the penalty kill. They have the sixth-best goals against average, giving up 2.56 goals against per game. They also happen to have an 84.3% success rate on the penalty kill.

The defense might be the Islanders' strongest quality, but the offensive side of the game hasn't been lacking. They are scoring 3.31 goals per game with +3.28 goals for above expected. New York does a very strong job driving the play thanks to their speed up front with players like Mat Barzal and Brock Nelson. As a team, they are generating 32.2 shots on goal per game and a fifth-best 11.95 chances.

The Islanders are playing excellent team hockey right now.

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators are still trying to adjust to their new look and figure out their identity with the team's high expectations for this season.

Ottawa has a very talented forward group, but its biggest struggle early on has been keeping the puck out of its own net. The Senators have some strong goaltenders in Cam Talbot and Anton Forsberg, but they haven't been able to remain consistent. The team is allowing 3.50 goals against per game, which is relatively subpar for a team with playoff aspirations. The Senators have allowed eleven goals in their previous three games and are 1-1-1 in those contests.

Despite their record of 5-8-1, I believe the Senators are a good team, it is just taking some time for them to figure it out with their young roster and new acquisitions. Their biggest strength has been their power play, which is converting at a 24.0% success rate. They have scored five goals on the man advantage in their past three contests.

The Senators are relying a bit too much on their power play right now to help them win games and that is a concern going up against the Islanders, who are phenomenal on the penalty kill.

Islanders vs. Senators Pick

The story in this game is pretty simple. The New York Islanders are at the top of their game right now and playing excellent hockey. Meanwhile, we still don't necessarily know what kind of game we are going to get from the Ottawa Senators.

Ottawa's power play has been its bread and butter, but the Islanders are one of the best penalty-killing teams in the league, so this doesn't necessarily play in the Senators' favor.

Sorokin has been one of the top goalies in the league and has won six of his past seven starts. The Islanders have had so much success against the Senators over the past couple of seasons and they match up so well against Ottawa in this game.

Home ice hasn't been that much of advantage for the Senators in this young season and the Islanders have been strong on the road. I think this is a great spot to take the Islanders.
