Two franchises with very different histories will face off for the right to lift the Stanley Cup.
The Edmonton Oilers were founded in 1971 and began play in the World Hockey Association. They joined the NHL in 1979 and subsequently won five Stanley Cups, which is tied for most in the NHL since the two leagues merged. However, they haven’t hoisted the cup since 1990.
Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers' first season came in 1993, and they’ve yet to win a single cup. They’re back in the Final for the second consecutive season but hope for a different result after falling to the Vegas Golden Knights, 4-1, a season ago.
The teams won’t take the ice until Saturday, but the Panthers are early favorites at -125 to win the whole thing while the Oilers are +105. Florida is also favored to win Game 1, with the puck line -1.5 (+168) and moneyline -125.
Additionally, odds are also already posted for who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy that’s awarded to the playoff's most valuable player.
Each team’s primary goal scorer are the two favorites to take home the award in Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (+370) and Florida’s Aleksander Barkov (+400). Goaltenders haven’t won the trophy all that much in recent seasons, with only one (Andrei Vasilevskiy in 2021) winning it in the last 11 seasons. However, Florida's Sergei Bobrovsky (+400) is tied with Barkov for the second-best odds. On the other hand, Edmonton’s netminder Stuart Skinner is a distant +50000.
