With a desperate need for a win, Serbia will be taking on Denmark in their final match of the Group Stage.

After Denmark’s first two matches, they earned two points on two draws. A frustrating draw against Slovenia and an inspiring draw against England. One of those opponents is certainly not like the other, leaving myself and plenty of others wondering which version of Denmark we’ll get in this upcoming fixture.

After only securing one point in two matches, Serbia’s output on the field hasn’t been living up to their expectations. With a 0-1 loss to England and a 1-1 draw to Slovenia, Serbia’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stage haven’t fallen to zero. With a win against Denmark and a win from England against Slovenia, Serbia will finish second in their group and advance.

Let’s take a look at my preview for Denmark vs Serbia as the teams clash at the Munich Football Arena.

Denmark Picks

A team known for being solid in tournaments, Denmark look to secure a spot in the knockout stage. The Danes are a very well-rounded team and have been playing with each other for a while. They had a lot of the momentum in their previous match against England, limiting the Three Lions to only one goal, which came off a Harry Kane tap-in after avoiding a traffic jam inside the box.

England and Denmark were essentially equal in terms of xG from open play, but one key metric that I found interesting was that Denmark created 0.43 xG from set play. This aspect of the game will be particularly useful against a team like Serbia, a team that can sometimes lose their heads and pile up statistics in the discipline column. If Serbia allows Christian Eriksen several chances on set pieces in even relatively dangerous areas, there’s a decent chance he’ll make them pay for it.

Another aspect of Denmark’s game that also contributes to set-piece success is Rasmus Hojlund, the 6’3’’, 21-year old dual-threat striker who is already turning heads after his first season in the Premier League.

Serbia Picks

With everything on the line, Serbia have to look to learn from their mistakes in order to beat a team like Denmark. Serbia are a very physical team and like to make that known early and often. They have the profile of a team who would be the perfect underdog to go far in a tournament like this.

However, they really haven’t looked like a team capable of doing so thus far. The biggest edge that Serbia have comes from their forward-thinking players, Dusan Vlahovic and Alexander Mitrovic. Mitrovic being a dominant aerial and physical presence, and Vlahovic being a very clinical and all-around striker.

Neither of these two have proven to be very dangerous in their first two matches. In order for Serbia to get the most out of this duo, their midfield needs to do a better job at getting them looks in dangerous areas. England were able to dominate the midfield in their first match, and Slovenia were able to create big chances from open play in their second match. If Serbia’s execution is anything similar to what we saw in the first two matches, they’re going to have a very long game against a team like Denmark.

Denmark vs Serbia

Prediction

When deciding on which team to bet on, it really comes down to a choice of if you want to play the chaotic underdog who can beat any team on their day in Serbia, or the classy, well-rounded and experienced veterans in Denmark, who know a thing or two about a thing or two when it comes to playing in big matches.

After having two matches to prove that Serbia can be a real threat to Group C, I’m not going to overthink this one and go with Denmark on the moneyline. You’re asking for a lot to go right for Serbia, who are more likely to beat themselves before Denmark do if things go south, at only +210.

Pick: Denmark ML (+135 via DraftKings)
