If you've ever placed a player prop before game time and came to discover that your player was either scratched or exited to injury, you've been left to wonder how the sportsbook app will handle your wager.
What Happens if a Player I Bet on Gets Injured at FanDuel?
When it comes to basketball player props in the NBA, WNBA and NCAA, your bet will stand once the player takes the court no matter how long they play in the game.
If a player doesn’t participate at all, bets are void.
For NFL player props, bets are settled as normal if the player is active and plays at least one snap. For example, if you bet on Tyreek Hill over 80.5 receiving yards and he plays for one drive, records 21 yards, and then gets injured, the bet counts as a loss since he didn’t reach 81 yards.
On the other side of the scenario, if you had bet on Hill under 80.5 total yards, your bet would have cashed since he didn't eclipse that number.
Say the injured player was a prop in a parlay you created prior to kickoff: Since they played at least one snap, the bet would stand as it pertains to their final stat line.
This also applies to FanDuel bonus bets. FanDuel will return any bonus bets wagered on a player prop if the player does not play in the game at all. If you place bonus bets on a player who suffers injury in the game, the bonus bets will stand as normal.
Am I Refunded if My Player is Scratched or Ejected?
For either strategic reasons and because of true uncertainty, we all know that NFL coaches wait until the latest possible minute to declare a player active or inactive.
FanDuel will return your stake if you bet on a player that is announced as "inactive".
So for instance, if you bet on Christian McCaffrey to go over 92.5 yards on his yardage prop and he’s then slated as an inactive plater, your bet is voided. You will get all your money back in your FanDuel account.
If this McCaffrey prop was a leg in a parlay, you wouldn't lose the entire parlay. Instead, the bet involving McCaffrey is voided and removed from the parlay, while the other legs are handled normally. The overall odds of the parlay will adjust based on the remaining bets.
These rules apply to props placed on both MLB and NHL games, too.
