The App-only picks this weekend went 2-1, bringing last week's total to seven units of profit. Let's keep that momentum going this week.

It's a smaller slate on Monday, but I have two picks for the day.

Let's dive into my MLB NRFI predictions and MLB model predictions for Monday, April 28.

Starting Pitchers: Griffin Canning vs. Trevor Williams

These are two of the better top-of-the-order offenses in baseball.

The Mets start with a murderers' row of Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto and Pete Alonso.

Even with Soto performing below expectations to start the season, he's still a well-above-average hitter overall, and Alonso's wRC+ trails only Aaron Judge for the major league lead.

The Nationals are very solid at the top, too, especially with speedster CJ Abrams back in the lineup.

Considering the 9.5-run total in this game, we'd expect those first six hitters to produce a good chunk of the overall scoring. Both starters have roughly league-average underlying numbers, both early in games and overall, but the bats are solid enough to overcome that.

Athletics vs. Rangers NRFI/YRFI Prediction

Starting Pitchers: JP Sears vs. Patrick Corbin

While we may have to come to grips with the idea that the spider that bit Patrick Corbin actually did give him superpowers if he keeps up his 2025 pace, his underlying numbers tell a different story.

Corbin's 3.77 overall ERA is fine — even excellent by his standards — but his ERA predictors are in the high-four to low-five range.

He's yet to allow a YRFI this season, but he's more than due — especially against the A's, a top-five team in baseball against lefties with two big power bats in the two and three spots in the lineup.

Plus, the other side is the Rangers vs. JP Sears, who had a 5.61 xFIP his first time through the order last season. The Rangers' hitters have underperformed this season, but they're also theoretically a good team against southpaws.
