The Knicks were sloppy, confused, and uncomfortable in their opener against Boston. Early struggles are understandable because it takes time to build chemistry and act as a cohesive unit on both ends of the court. Although, I believe in the Knicks from a long-term perspective, growing pains will likely hinder them for the first month or two.

Karl-Anthony Towns, in particular, struggled mightily to anchor the defense. He was slow to process actions, often didn’t switch when required, and looked lackadaisical in general.

Indiana will smell blood in the water. They feature an elite pick-and-roll offense and will try to constantly drag Towns into the primary action. Myles Turner’s 3-point range is a huge problem for New York, and the Pacers’ guards are superb at finding the open shooter or cutter. The Knicks have excellent wing defenders, but there’s not much they can individually do against an offense like Indiana's.

The bench advantage also clearly goes to the Pacers, as well as the continuity advantage. Jalen Brunson may scorch them, but it will be difficult to match Tyrese Haliburton and company.

Overall, 5.5 points is a lot to give an Indiana squad who found their rhythm in the second half against Detroit.

Josh Hart 10+ Rebounds (+130)

Indiana surrendered the fifth-largest offensive rebound rate last season. Turner still cannot control the glass, and their small guards and wings don’t help much in this department either.

That’s excellent news for Josh Hart, who is one of the top offensive rebounders across the league. The Pacers should have issues all game trying to box him out. Plus, they give up a ton of rim attempts, so Hart will frequently be in position to grab his own misses on cuts and in transition.

New York also needs him to crash the boards with centers Mitchell Robinson and Precious Achiuwa sidelined. Hart has notched 10+ rebounds in seven straight matchups against the Pacers.

Pascal Siakam 3+ Assists (-225)

Siakam has grown into a quality playmaker throughout the years, especially out of double-teams. Indiana loves to space the court, and their offense typically generates elite shot quality. That makes life easy for Siakam as a passer.

Given that OG Anunoby will be marking him, Siakam may struggle to create separation and knife his way to the rim. Instead, look for more kick-outs and decoy post-ups.

He notched three and five assists versus New York last season after being traded to Indiana. And although past history should be taken with a grain of salt because rosters and schemes are different, it’s worth noting that Siakam has recorded at least three assists in 13 straight matchups against the Knicks.
