Kansas pulled off a stunner at home with an outright win against the previously undefeated No. 6 Oklahoma Saturday, which snapped an 18-game losing streak for the Jayhawks against the Sooners. It's Kansas' first home win against a top-10 ranked team since 1997. The Sooners entered Saturday's matchup as 7.5-point favorites when lines closed and were -330 favorites around the market.
The Sooners now have the most straight up losses in college football as a 7-point favorite since 2010, per Action Network Director of Research Evan Abrams.
The Sooners had a chance to win the game late. After an interception, the Sooners had the ball and a one-point lead with 2:29 left in the game in Jayhawks territory but gained just three yards on three plays just outside of field goal range. They followed that up with a false start on a fourth-down attempt which forced them to bring the punt team on the field and gave the Jayhawks the opportunity to drive down the field for the go-ahead score.
While the win was shocking given the history between the two teams and Oklahoma's ranking, the majority of the betting public was Kansas. More than 60% of money and 55% of the bets on the spread in Saturday's matchup were on the Jayhawks to cover, according to Action Network's betting data. Kansas also had a hefty amount of money being bet on them to win outright with 86% of the money landing on the Jayhawks to win, the sixth-highest rate for Saturday's slate of games.
