Imagine having a million dollars riding on fourth-and-inches.
That was the scenario for one high-roller who placed a $1 million bet on the Chiefs money line to net $567k.
The Falcons drove deep into Kansas City territory, down by five with less than a minute to go. They faced a third-and-1 from the Chiefs’ 13 but couldn’t pick up the yard as Drue Tranquill denied Tyler Allgeier.
They obviously had to go for it, but instead of fighting straight ahead for mere inches, they decided to stretch it out wide with Bijan Robinson. The play never stood a chance as Nick Bolton burst into the backfield for the game-winning tackle.
The million-dollar bettor actually had to sweat out a pair of deep Falcons drives late in the game. Atlanta drove down to Kansas City’s six-yard line on a long 15-play, 83-yard drive that took 7:18. Kirk Cousins nearly found Kyle Pitts in the back of the end zone, but the tight end was draped and couldn’t come up with the ball as he looked for a flag.
Head coach Raheem Morris could have kicked a field goal but instead opted to roll the dice on fourth-and-5. Unfortunately for the Falcons – and very fortunately for the million-dollar bettor – Cousins couldn’t connect with Drake London as they turned the ball over on downs.
