The Green Bay Packers (11-6) will face the Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) on Sunday, January 12, at the Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field in a wild-card playoff matchup at 3.30 p.m. ET.
Beyond spread and total bets, I'm looking at Packers vs. Eagles anytime touchdown scorers, and I have a pick for each team on Sunday.
Here are my anytime touchdown scorer bets for Sunday's game.
Packers vs. Eagles Anytime Touchdown Scorers
- DeVonta Smith Anytime Touchdown (+200)
- Dontayvion WicksAnytime Touchdown (+320)
It's a rematch from Week 1 and I can't say much has changed for the Eagles or Packers. That game was played in Brazil on a crappy field that the players openly complained about, and QB Jordan Love ended up leaving with an injury in the fourth quarter.
The main takeaway from that game was that the Eagles defense looked like it wasn't ready for another playoff run. However, after the regular season, it's a pretty straightforward case that Philadelphia's defense is stacked.
The main strength I'd point to is the Eagles' run defense, which only allowed nine rushing TDs and ranked second in defensive DVOA vs. the run. This is why you're seeing Packers RB Josh Jacobs at nearly even odds to score despite scoring a rushing TD in eight straight games.
The one player I was drawn to immediately when I saw this matchup is WR Jayden Reed.
His lack of consistency week to week is super frustrating for a TD bettor because there are matchups he is built to exploit — especially against zone, where he leads the team in yards per route run and sees his target rate increase. But then we get to the game and he's a complete no-show. Reed failed to score a TD in the season's final five games.
For the reasons mentioned above, I’m going with WR Dontayvion Wicks. He should see an elevated role with WR Christian Watson out, and he has shown he can win matchups in man coverage.
Wicks will likely see looks from CB Darius Slay or rookie Cooper DeJean, while CB Quinyon Mitchell will likely match up with WR Romeo Doubs.
Wicks has five TDs this season, but his consistent looks in the red zone make him appealing. He leads the team in red-zone targets and led all Packers pass-catchers in red-zone targets over the season's final five games.
Even if QB Jalen Hurts practices, the amount of time he’s been in concussion protocol makes me uneasy about betting on Eagles TD scorers.
While the Eagles will throw the ball, don’t get it twisted — this is a run-first team. Philly led the NFL in total rush attempts, and its RBs and QB combined for 29 rushing TDs this season while also leading the NFL in total rushing first downs. When in doubt, they push the tush.
That’s why I hesitate to back someone like WR AJ Brown at +135. Those odds are pretty steamed, and I expect the Packers to double him as much as possible to reduce explosive plays.
You’d likely be better served to take his teammate, WR Devonta Smith, at +200. He has seen as many red-zone targets (seven) as Brown over the last five games and has nearly identical receiver metrics, like target share and yards per route run.
VERDICT:DeVonta Smith +200 | Dontayvion Wicks +320
