The Seattle Seahawks were 6-3 and looked prime to make the playoffs after Week 10. A pair of back-to-back losses over the past two weeks put those postseason hopes in question.
The Seahawks' odds to miss the NFL playoffs were -150 at DraftKings entering tonight's game. Now, they face an uphill climb with five games remaining after falling 41-35 to the Dallas Cowboys.
A win would have increased their chances of making the playoffs to approximately 61% according to the New York Times' playoff simulator. Instead, their chances plummeted to around 28% after their third-straight defeat. Their odds at DraftKings to miss the playoffs moved to -190.
The Seahawks face a murderer’s row of opponents as we enter the final month of the season. They travel to San Francisco next week to take on the 49ers before hosting the Philadelphia Eagles. They’ll likely enter those games as underdogs, and there’s a legit chance they are 6-8 heading into the final three games of the season against the TennesseeTitans, Pittsburgh Steelers and ArizonaCardinals.
Seattle’s path to the postseason also becomes more difficult based on tiebreaker situations. They’ve already lost both games to the surging 5-6 Los Angeles Rams. Additionally, another pair of 5-6 teams on their heels have among the easiest strength of schedules remaining in the Green Bay Packers (third-easiest) and New Orleans Saints (fifth-easiest).
Meanwhile, the Cowboys kept their hopes alive to catch the Eagles for the NFC East crown. They entered tonight's game with +700 odds to win the division at DraftKings and now have upwards of an 11% chance to win the division, according to the Times' simulator. A loss would have given them around just a 3% chance.
