Pat Freiermuth
ATD +290
Through two games this season, Freiermuth leads the Steelers in red-zone targets. He’s also second in overall receptions and targets.
The Browns haven’t allowed any touchdowns to opposing tight ends so far this season, but I think they’re coming. Cleveland has been in the bottom five in TDs allowed to tight ends in each of the past three seasons.
Also helping Freiermuth is that quarterback Mitch Trubisky isn’t exactly thriving down the field. His yards per attempt is ugly, which means there aren’t many downfield opportunities for the likes of Diontae Johnson or George Pickens.
David Njoku
ATD +470
It’s Tight Ends Night. We’re going over to the other sideline for the Browns’ athletic tight end.
Njoku is tied for the team lead in red-zone targets through two games. He would have scored in Week 2 if his feet were about two inches smaller, pulling in an impressive grab but not doing so in bounds in the end zone.
There’s more competition for Njoku at the position than there is for Freiermuth, but I’m not worried about Harrison Bryant. Njoku is playing more than twice the number of snaps that Bryant is so far this season.
Njoku only scored four touchdowns last season, but one of them was against the Steelers. He was +350 to score both times, and that was when he was behind Austin Hooper on the depth chart.
