The total for Thursday Night Football’s showdown between the Broncos and Saints was a classic Pros vs. Joes.

The sharps and big money were on an under of 37. Meanwhile, the public at large backed the over with 56% of the handle and 62% of all bets at DraftKings.

It looked like the sharps were on the right side of things for nearly the entire game. The Broncos led 26-3 with just over four minutes left, and it appeared the under was in the bag, much to the public’s chagrin. However, an unlikely series of events led to a bad beat for the experts and a satisfying, unexpected cover for the public to kick off Week 7.

It started when Spencer Rattler was sacked with 4:06 left in the game. The ball popped in the air and Broncos linebacker Cody Barton snatched it and ran 52 yards for an easy touchdown to make it 33-3.

The Saints got the ball back, but their offense had been inept all game long. They ran the ball for the most part with the game well out of reach and faced a 3rd-and-5 at the two-minute warning. Rattler was banged up on the prior play and was replaced by Jake Haener, who the Saints decided to let air it out.

The Saints drew a pass interference on his first snap to move the ball to Denver’s 38 with 1:56 left. Haener then completed three of his next four passes, including a pair of big plays to Cedrick Wilson Jr. The first was a 17-yarder that moved the ball to Denver’s 12. Then, on the next snap, the two connected again for a 12-yard touchdown with 1:22 left to secure the ugly bad beat.
