These are two teams on different paths and in contrasting forms. Arsenal, unbeaten in its last nine matches, will face a Brighton side on a winless seven-game streak.

The Gunners, still adapting to life without star player Bukayo Saka, will need to get through a challenging month. Their next stop is this match against the Seagulls at Amex Stadium on Saturday, January 4, at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Here is my Arsenal vs. Brighton prediction and Premier League odds for today's match.

Arsenal Prediction

Losing Bukayo Saka to a hamstring injury was a tough blow, especially with nine games scheduled in January, including Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and Champions League fixtures. However, since the winger went down, Arsenal has managed to come out on top against Ipswich Town and Brentford.

Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and promising 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri need to produce enough chances from the flanks to offset this loss. Saka was the team's primary creator with five goals and 10 assists, and he is estimated to remain sidelined for two months. Manager Mikel Arteta will have to keep rotating players to ensure fresh legs.

The Gunners' victory on the first day of 2025 was a strong statement. They visited Brentford, the second-best home team in the league with a 7-1-1 record, and beat them 3-1. Arsenal's away performance improved to 5-3-2, fourth best in the league, with an impressive +9 goal differential. Their unbeaten streak reached nine games, and they must keep adding to it if they hope to catch Liverpool at the top spot.

One thing to monitor closely is their effectiveness in front of goal. Gabriel Jesus is reaching peak form and has recently helped in that aspect, but the Gunners still have 41.46 xG for only 38 goals scored in league matches. They'll need much better aim if they want to compete for the title.

Brighton Prediction

It's not easy to get used to mediocrity after two seasons in which Brighton soared to a team-record sixth place while also playing in the FA Cup semifinals and the UEFA Europa League Round of 16. It might sound harsh, but the Seagulls finished 11th last season and now rank 10th without any hint of improvement.

Manager Fabian Hürzeler has yet to leave his mark. Neither the flair nor the results instilled by his predecessor, Roberto De Zerbi, are to be found in this Brighton side, especially over the last few weeks. Three draws in a row and a winless seven-game streak are not much to be excited about. Their expected goals scored (xG) and expected points (xPTS) are almost an exact match, so their performance is accurate. The Seagulls are what they are.

What would that be? A team good enough on offense to produce 29 goals in 19 matches while also paying the price with 28 scores conceded and only four clean sheets in the Premier League. João Pedro has been a standout player, but they don't rely heavily on stars, as 13 different goalscorers this season can attest. Brighton ranks third in aerial duels won, which might come in handy against an Arsenal side with the second-most goals scored via headers.

Brighton is more aggressive at home — ranked fifth in possession and fourth in shots per game — although to no avail, as their lackluster 3-5-1 record and +1 goal difference at Amex Stadium shows. Their last three matches at home ended in two draws and one defeat. Left-back Pervis Estupiñan and goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen have been involved in transfer rumors, with Estupiñan missing the last game without injury or suspension as the cause.

It's time for the Seagulls to decide what this second half of the season should look like.

Arsenal vs. Brighton Prediction

Arsenal's form might tip the scale, but Brighton's three wins at home have come against these rivals: Manchester United, Tottenham, and Manchester City. So maybe a really good opponent is what motivates them.

The most interesting thing is that both sides feature menacing offenses and a commitment to building up play from the back. Arsenal has 38 league goals for an average of 2.0 per game, and Brighton has scored in 17 of its 19 matches. Their recent head-to-head history adds to this. Four of their last six Premier League matchups ended with three or more goals scored, and the number goes up to five if we include their last Carabao Cup fixture.

The Seagulls have been unable to keep a clean sheet in their past three encounters with the Gunners, and the last two matchups at Amex Stadium resulted in 4-2 and 3-0 wins for the visitors. With pressing needs and better goals to attain for both teams, this promises to be a high-scoring match.

Arsenal vs. Brighton Pick: Over 2.5 goals
